Whoever said good things come in small packages must have been thinking of Celest Thoi when they uttered that statement. Despite her petite frame, this working mother of two is a big name in the wedding industry, moving from success to success since the inception of her brand name in 2011.

Celest first set foot in the bridal wear scene in 2004, when she managed a bridal boutique in Auckland, New Zealand. Having gathered sufficient experience, she eventually set out on her own, and came back to Malaysia, where she created and launched the premier label “Celestial Collection” at the Malaysia International Fashion Week 2009.

Shortly after that, she set up her new label aptly named, ‘Celest Thoi Bridal’, in Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur. As they say, fortune favours the bold, and before long, Celest is a sought-after name in collaboration with many fashion magazine and beauty labels even appearing as a celebrity judge in the vaunted The Apprentice: Asia.

When it comes down to describing Celest’s bridal gown design, the word ‘classic’ comes to mind. Describing her own sense of style, Celest cheerfully indicates that dresses, shoes and other products carrying her label are meant to exude a sense of timelessness, and everlasting grace. Drawing upon the traditional concepts of the wedding gown, she has injected her own sense of modernism and relevance to produce a range of bridal wear that women today wouldn’t hesitate to don, without losing the spirit of vintage charm.

As a bride approaches her wedding day, there are a set of common questions that will plague her, and predominantly, those questions will concern her state of attire on that very momentous day. Should I wear a veil? If I don’t, are there any alternatives? What sort of bridal veil would best frame my features? So on and so forth. The choice of wedding headgear, among other pertinent questions, ranks rather highly on the woman’s list of burning queries.

We managed to catch the busy designer for a few words of wisdom, and asked her about what she and her team love the most about weddings. In a girlish mien, she cheerfully admits that besides the pretty things, its essentially the opportunity to work with happy and excited people that keeps her going strong.

Being experienced in the industry, we also asked what advice she had to impart to the brides (and grooms) that would be working with her. Her basic rule to the brides to be?
“Always remember that you have to look stunning, but at the same time, be practical with your choice of dress to suit the environment, venue or theme!

“Do spend some time doing research before embarking on the journey in searching for your ideal vendors. Be sure that you and your partner feel absolutely comfortable with them, before signing on with them.”

With such talent and creative flair, we’re pretty sure that the dainty Celest Thoi will continue on to grow as a major player in the luxurious and opulent wedding industry.
